Employment History

December 2003 - Current

Web Hosting Services - TkFast Inc., Wichita, Kansas
Lead System Administrator and Director of IT for TkFast Inc. Oversaw and executed a complete rollout of hosting network including hardware choice, network design, software choice and configuration, upgrades and maintenence. Network consists of a /22-worth of servers running Debian 3.1 Sarge and Debian 4.0 Etch and Apache/MySQL configurations for clients to host web data from. Responsibilities include security audits, backup scheduling and testing, 99.99% uptime of all services, offsite data mirroring, and client technical support. Also designed 24/7 monitoring and of server and network health for the hosting network, as well as offsite client servers with pager and cellular alerts. Successfully migrated a live network and minimized downtime through large upgrades such as ISP changes, Cisco/Linux router configuration/replacement, server IP re-numbering, server hardware upgrades, and miscellaneous service changes and upgrades. Managed the design and programming of a customized customer control portal. This portal enables customer control for site support trouble ticketing, webhosting functions (DNS, email, spam/bandwidth reports, etc), and offsite backup data archiving and retrieval.

Database Designer and Advanced Web Developer for TkFast Inc. Designed databases in MySQL for web-based use involving structured PHP4. Produced and currently maintain code and databases for several area, national, and international sites.

December 2002 - Current

Business Computer Consulting - TkFast Inc., Wichita, Kansas
Acting contact and on-call support technician for businesses in the Wichita area. Advised businesses on upgrade choices for office systems, servers, and network redesign/installation (LAN/WAN). Performed several major infrastructure installations including data networks and analog phone lines as well as audio/video feeds. Installed, configured, and customized several Windows-based domain-managed networks ranging from two or three client systems to a dozen or more client systems on a large scale multi-site network. Acting support contact for possible post-installation issues, problems and upgrades. Extensive knowledge and experience of Cat5/5e/6 wire installation and testing for networks.

October 2001 - May 2005

Assistant Systems Administrator - Computer Science Department, Wichita State University, Wichita, Kansas
Building, maintaining, and upgrading Computer Science Department machinery including systems running Windows 95/98/NT4/2000/XP and various flavors of Linux. Acting lab manager for the Windows 2000/XP computer labs. Designed and deployed two linux-based domain setups, one in a Windows 2000 environment and the other in a mixed XP/2000 environment. Assisted in a remote-boot terminal-server project deployment in two linux labs. Responsible for lab and server hardware failure/RMA replacement. Provided linux system support for the evening labs. Responsible for design and deployment of a custom application of Microsoft Software Update Service (SUS) for the department's Windows systems to coincide with the existing hardware security measures. Designed a web-based systems manager which monitored department systems for network problems and downtimes as well as possible problem forecasting. Designed a web-based accounting manager for students to use for miscellaneous account queries such as password reset, account expiration calculations, print history and quota reporting, and personal information queries such as enrollment dates and majors.

November 2002 - May 2004

Service Technician - Best Buy Store #224 West Wichita, Best Buy, Inc., Wichita, Kansas
Performed preventive service on store-bought electronics such as camcorders, CD players, and VHS players. Processed Best Buy Performance Service Plan (PSPs) warranty claims on customer units. Performed non-warranty upgrades to customer computers per the Computer Upgrades help desk. Upgrades included memory, hard drives, CDROM/DVDROM/CDRW drives, and other peripherals as well as installations of printers and scanners. Best Buy PSP In-Store warranty work on covered computer systems.

June-July 2000, 2001, and 2002 (Summers)

Assistant Technology Director - Quivira Scout Ranch, Sedan, Kansas; Quivira Council, Boy Scouts of America
Instructed ten different merit badge courses for the Tech.com Program Area. Assistant editor for the Quivira-Sun Times, a weekly sixteen page newspaper designed to highlight the events of each camp session. Performed light maintenence on an Access database tracking the progress of each scout in his classes and signing off the completed requirements. Managed data entry done by other Program Area Directors for their classes in the database. Designed and deployed a Linux Terminal Server Project in the main lab. Assisted management of an NT4 domain in the secondary lab. Directed and produced a five-minute promotional video to spotlight the camp and attract potential Troops. Designed and published an interactive CD-based promotional tool which featured each newspaper published at camp in a color PDF format, numerous pictures taken by campers and staff alike sorted by week, and the afore-mentioned video.
